As we pass on into the weekend, we can look back at just how big last weekend was in Chicago!

On October 5th, The Big Weekend hosted Papadosio and Emancipator Ensemble at the Vic Theatre. The Big Weekend was a multi-night jam band event that was being held in multiple venues throughout the city of Chicago. The event featured both established and up and coming jam bands, which really gave the city a variety of viewing options, as well as a good balance of old and new funky jams!

Initially, the event was to be held at the Riviera Theater, but coordinators ended up changing the show’s location to The Vic Theater in Chicago, IL. Papadosio played from 8:30pm until 10pm. During that time, the whole crowd was groovin’ to some fan-favorite tunes as well as some newer releases; such as “Snorkel”, “New Love”, “The World is a Cube”, “Liminal Daybreak”, “Distress Signal”, “Content Coma”, and “Improbability Blotter.” This intimate event was a great way to check out Papadosio’s newest tracks before their Content Coma tour officially kicks off in California on October 13th.

Once Emancipator Ensemble really got into their set, the venue was noticeably packed with fans, completely filling the main floor and balcony. The band played their hits such as “Lionheart”, “Diamonds”, “Minor Cause”, “Dusk to Dawn”, “1993”, “Baralku”, and “Goodness”. This was a great show for first time listeners and longtime fans. Lucky for us, Emancipator played a bit past their set time!

Without question, this show had an extremely pleasant energy and we were thoroughly impressed with its organization. Each band had a stellar performance that truly left us in awe. Chicago and The Good Music Collectiv are looking forward to seeing what The Big Weekend has in store for us next year!
