FuntCase, aka James Hazell, has become internationally known for his dirty, raw production style and sound. His bass music takes listeners on a wild ride, with wobbles and whomps that make you dance whether you want to or not! Hazell is from Bournemouth, UK, and first started demonstrating his musical abilities when he’d jam with his friends back home. After listening to ‘Bandwagon Blues’ by Twisted Individual, a classic Drum n Bass (DnB) track, Hazell fell in love, and thus he decided to start producing his own music.
First gaining popularity in the UK, DnB is an extremely diverse genre that has influenced other styles like hip-hop, big beat, dubstep, house, trip hop, techno, jass, rock, pop, and ambient music. It’s no surprise FuntCase has developed such a distinct sound due to his beginning musical influences. Under Hazell’s first stage name, DJ Dose, he shared his tracks with DnB radio stations and he was first recognized in 2007. Two years later, Hazell started experimenting with producing high-energy dubstep with DnB layering. After finding tremendous success with his first track ‘Make Our Day,’ he was signed onto 4:20 Records as FuntCase. Soon after, he received an offer to join other incredibly talented artists associated with Circus Records. Throughout the years, FuntCase has become a staple in the dubstep scene and has developed an impressively loyal fanbase across the globe.
