If you’ve been following our page for a while, you know we’re huge fans of Colorado-based Laika Beats (aka Josh Thompson). We interviewed him back in early 2018, and since we last spoke, he’s been hard at work! Aside from his Spring 2019 tour announcement with G-Space, Laika Beats has a ton in store for us when it comes to performances and releasing new music this year.
In November 2018, Laika Beats released his Space Dog EP. A departure from his usual up-beat, heavy-hitting bass music, this project showcased 4-tracks that truly compliment the producer’s downtempo catalogue. Those who listened carefully may have noticed a nod toward the artist’s stage name at the end of the title track, Space Dog. As we reported in our interview with Laika Beats, the name is inspired by the first animal ever launched into space, the soviet space-dog, Laika.
A couple of weeks ago when we spoke to Thompson, we found out he plans to release a new EP every month for all of 2019! He was generous enough to give us a preview of his newest project earlier this month: Lone Wolf EP. This work was just released on all social outlets yesterday, January 29th. Over the last few weeks, this EP has been on heavy rotation here at The Good Music Collectiv! The project consists of 5 all new tracks packed with a plethora of weird, heavy-hitting, and unique sounds. Impressively, the material contained in Lone Wolf is very distinct from Laika Beats’ work in Space Dog. These two projects really showcase some of Laika Beats’ diverse talents, and without question, his production style knows no boundaries. Not surprisingly, each track in this work has something particular to offer and the rhythmic beats are one-of-a-kind. It’s safe to say we’re pumped for his next release, and thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long!
