Lollapalooza returns to Chicago, IL this August 1st through 4th. The festival is going to be held at the same location as years past, directly in the center of the cityscape, at Grant Park. The giant urban park has been the Chicago festival’s home since 2005, and its location in the heart of the city reflects how much life the festival gives to the city. It is a rare occasion to see over 400,000 Chicago natives absolutely take over the enormous Grant Park location, but it is an amazing sight to see. Armed with 8 massive stages and near 200 artists performing every year, Lollapalooza easily takes the cake for the largest production at a music festival in Chicago. Although the festival found its roots in alternative rock, industrial, and rap music, over the years the event has significantly expanded its variety in music acts. Nowadays the lineup includes some of the biggest names in pop, rock, heavy metal, alternative, hip hop, and electronic music. And to be fair, the huge diversity of music styles included in the lineup is something that keeps me coming back. As someone who exclusively attends electronic music festivals, Lollapalooza gives me the opportunity to see artists that I normally wouldn’t buy tickets for otherwise, but that I’ve always had an interest in seeing. Speaking of, Lollapalooza just announced their lineup for the 2019 festival and it is absolutely stacked, as expected!
Obvious highlights include Ariana Grande, Tame Impala, Flume, and Twenty One Pilots. However, I strongly encourage attendees to venture outside their comfort zone and to experience more than just headlining sets. There are absolutely tons of amazing artists on the lineup! If you’re looking for some chillwave, groovy house vibes I suggest checking out artists such as Rufus Du Sol, Gryffin, Lane 8, and San Holo. If you’re into heavy dubstep or weird bass, don’t miss Svdden Death, Clozee, or CharlestheFirst. And if you’re not into electronic music or just trying to check out something new, check out artists like Hozier or FKJ, who put on spectacular live performances. And finally, seriously, do NOT miss Tenacious D. ‘Nuff said. Peep the Soundcloud links below to listen to a few of my favorites by the artists I mentioned! This year’s Lollapalooza is shaping up to be an amazing one.
We can’t wait to see you all there! Be sure to grab your tickets here before they’re gone!
