Giving back to your community is an amazing feeling! Gravitas Recordings had this in mind when releasing Circulate Vol. 1, a global bass music compilation curated by David Starfire and SOOHAN. This album features original tracks, remixes, and collaborations by top-tier artists such as Kaya Project, An-ten-nae, Desert Dwellers, Beats Antique, and CloZee, to name a few. Celebrating music from across the globe, this album brings to light the raw, unique sounds from places like Ghana, Angola, Poland, France, and more. One of my favorite tracks off the release is “Kayu” by An-ten-nae, and it was the first of three singles that were published in anticipation of Circulate. Keeping with An-ten-nae’s usual vibe, this song features catchy down-tempo beats and exquisite vocals. An-ten-nae classifies his work as “acid crunk,” and I can assure you, his music slaps. World Bass is a totally underrated and underrepresented genre of electronic music, but this compilation brings the undeniable soul of the genre to the forefront for listeners to enjoy.

Not only is the compilation full of amazing world bass tracks, but it’s all going to a good cause. 100% of net proceeds will be donated to Beyond the Grade, a grassroots, not-for-profit organization. The Austin-based charity gives back to the community by providing after-school music education for children who need it most! Austin musicians have donated their time to Beyond the Gate by teaching a plethora of programs, camps, and classes. Some of these include beats, live performance, drum kits, keyboard/piano, and guitars. It’s no secret that music positively impacts people’s happiness, learning potential, and creativity; unfortunately, an increasing number of schools are unable to fund music education due to financial constraints. David Starfire and SOOHAN are thrilled to share Beyond the Grade’s mission across the electronic music community through Circulate, especially because they are fully aware of how life-changing music education can be toward a child’s development and confidence.

Gravitas Recordings has released a number of charity compilations in the past, demonstrating their commitment to their mantra: “doing good with good music.” Additionally, David Starfire has also served our community by releasing works like Karuna (2016). This was a benefit album with a goal of raising money for Burmese refugees through Thai Freedom House, a not-for-profit organization that assists in education through language, arts, and academia. Starfire’s passion for community service clearly continues to extend through Circulate Vol. 1.

Another mission of Circulate was to advance the global bass music community that continues to expand around the world. Highlighting sounds and artists from the United States, Finland, Ghana, Canada, Hungary, Angola, Poland, France, the UK, and more who all actively contribute to the new-age music that fuses traditional cultural elements with modern bass, beats, and rhythms. Dance music has consistently set itself apart from the norm and is incredibly special because it eliminates all boundaries. Dance music truly can cross all languages to be understood universally.
