Summer Camp: The Midwest’s Best Memorial Day Weekend Event

This Memorial Day weekend, Summer Camp Music Festival will return by hosting a stacked lineup of over 150 artists on nine different stages. We believe one of the best parts about this festival is that it showcases incredible talent from various musical styles like electronic, hip-hop, reggae, rock/alternative, and improvised jam. Although this list is not exhaustive, some of our recommendations for this weekend include: moe., Umphrey’s McGee, Phil Lesh, Diplo, Slightly Stoopid, Cypress Hill, STS9, Tipper, RL Grime, Tycho, Action Bronson, Beats Antique, Cherub, EOTO, Jai Wolf, Keys N Krates, Lettuce, Liquid Stranger, Opiuo, Papadosio, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, SOJA, Spafford, Twiddle, Zomboy, Aqueous, Break Science, Dirt Monkey, Jade Cicada, Mad Zach, Maddy O’Neal, Marvel Years, ProbCause, Shlump, SoDown, Subtronics, Tauk, The Werks, Zeke Beats, LWKY, and EGi. Without a doubt, this mixture of musical genres brings in an extremely diverse crowd!

Back during its first year, approximately 1,000 attendees ventured out to experience over 15 bands on two stages at the festival’s quaint home in Chillicothe, Illinois. Summer Camp—now on its 18th year— brings in tens of thousands of attendees and will be held at its traditional home at Three Sisters Park during May 25 to May 27. Even though the event has continued to grow since its inception, SCampers still feel at home at the festival and welcome new members to their dedicated community. Pre-party tickets are also available for $45, which really comes in handy for patrons that like to get their weekend started early since it allows for entry on Thursday, May 24th. If you can’t attend for the whole weekend, Sunday 1-day passes are also available on the festival’s official website.

Due to limited space, late night shows in the Red Barn are exclusively open to attendees who purchase additional tickets. Umphrey’s McGee and Nailed It!! (featuring Ryan Stasik and Jake Cinninger of Umphrey’s McGee, Jason Huber of Cherub, Brock Bowling and Matt Harris of Zoogma, and Eliot Lipp paying tribute to Nine Inch Nails) are performing on Thursday (sold out), moe. and Twiddle on Friday (sold out), STS9 and Keys N Krates on Saturday (sold out), and Diplo and Liquid Stranger on Sunday. An upgrade to VIP ensures entrance to these late night shows!

HeadCount, a national, non-partisan, non-profit that registers voters at concerts, music festivals, and entertainment events returns to Summer Camp this year too! They’ve been registering voters at SCamp for over a decade, and have worked with artists like Bassnectar, Phish, Dave Matthews, Bill Eichner, and My Morning Jacket. Additionally, Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead is on their board of directors. They currently have approximately 20,000 volunteers across the United States, and since 2004, they’ve registered almost 500,000 new voters. They’ll be onsite all weekend also handing out snacks to those who are interested in registering to vote. They’re expecting a great turnout, especially as our 2018 midterm elections soon approach!
